Through programs such as Microsoft BizSpark Microsoft is helping to ignite the local software economy and prime new businesses for success. There are about 400 BizSpark members in Ukraine.

Microsoft is focusing its citizenship work on creating opportunities for youth through technology, training and experiences that empower them to imagine and realize their full potential.

By helping youth capture opportunities for education and employment, Microsoft is helping them create their futures and make real impact for a better tomorrow.

UKRAINIAN STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN IMAGINE CUP

In 2012, 8,500 Ukrainian students participated in Imagine Cup with two teams in the global finals. And about 22 000 students changing the world through Imagine Cup in Ukraine since 2006. A few years back Ukraine won Imagine Cup Worldwide contest for the first time ever.

Team “QuadSquad” from Donetsk Academy “STEP” and their mentor developed a glove to transform sign language into voice. It includes software part with Microsoft technologies used and special gloves with sensors for sign language recognition. TIME magazine named it as one of the best inventions of 2012.

PARTNERS IN LEARNING

Thanksto Microsoft Partners in Learning initiative 700 000 teachers were trained and21 million students reached in 10 years. Microsoft’s Ukrainian Partners inLearning curriculum, designed to train teachers on how to effectivelyincorporate ICT into their classrooms, has become a mandatory part of theteacher training program across Ukraine.

Microsoftestablished the Partners in Learning Network for Ukrainian educators to shareteaching materials and ideas, participate in online discussions and access awealth of professional development resources. The Partners in Learning Networkhas more than 30,000 educators.

ONLINE SAFETY

Microsoftis dedicated to protecting safety online. Since 2009, Microsoft has hostedinteractive lessons, teaching materials and resources for 110 000 children andteenagers, 17 500 parents and over 45 000 teachers.

IDEA TRAINING CENTERS

Microsoftcontinuously invests in improving ICT literacy among youth by supporting IDEAtraining centers around Ukraine, making educational content available, andsupporting Internet centers in public libraries around the country.


IDEA CENTERS BY THE NUMBERS

1.     Grant support of USD 150,000 for 2013 and 2014; 2.     50 IDEA centers operate throughout Ukraine, now focusing onyouth; 3.    Since 2008, over 191 000 people have benefited from IDEAcenters. 4.    $9 million worth of software donated to theBibliomist project for about 1 600 public libraries. 5 mln users got freeInternet access at public libraries. 5.     About$4.3 million worth of software donated to over 500 Ukrainian NGOs, and 300 NGOConnection Days were organized to teach NGOs to benefit from IT.

ICROSOFT DREAMSPARK

TheDreamSpark program provides university’ students and teachers in Ukraine withfree access to licensed versions of Microsoft software for development anddesign. 30,000 technical students in Ukraine download free developer tools andapplications per year.

MICROSOFT YOUTHSPARK LIVE

YouthSparkLive is a global youth community, designed to enable young leaders shareexperience, get mentorship for changes in the country and worldwide. Youth maychoose one of three areas: education, employment or business through ITtechnologies. 150 young leaders have already received Microsoft mentorship inUkraine.

MICROSOFT IT ACADEMY

TheMicrosoft IT Academy program provides high-quality training by Microsoftauthorized courses. 35 000 Ukrainian students have already received their techcertification.

BUILDING A FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE INNOVATION

Innovationis clearly a lynchpin for European countries as they emerge from recent yearsof recession, and the Internet will play a key role in enabling growth opportunities.Microsoft is driving industry efforts to create a safer, more trusted Internetin Ukraine by promoting security and privacy fundamentals, deliveringtechnology innovation, and encouraging industry and government collaboration.

GOVERNMENT SECURITY PROGRAM

TheGovernment Security Program (GSP), created in late 2002, is Microsoft’sworldwide security information-sharing initiative for national governments.Microsoft GSP helps governments all over the world to fulfill securityobligations to their citizens, to defend their national IT infrastructure andnational economies.

Currently,over 20 national governments and international organizations, representing 35agencies, are in the GSP, including New Zealand, UK, China. On December 22nd,2014 Ukrainian government has also joined the GSP program in order to provideeffective protection of national information systems, as well as to develop,deploy and support secure information systems.

MEMORANDUM ON COOPERATION IN CYBERSECURITY WITH THE MINISTRY OF INTERNALAFFAIRS OF UKRAINE (MIA)

OnApril 2nd, 2015 Microsoft Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs ofUkraine (MIA) signed Memorandum of understanding that establishes mutualinterest in cooperation in the field of data protection, information and cybersecurity. Memorandum will be the base for signing further agreements, underwhich MIA and Microsoft specialists will cooperate on strengthening cybersecurity of the Ministry. New approaches to the protection of state informationsystems in Ukraine will ensure effective control and comprehensive protectionof state information and would allow to resist growing threats effectively.

ENABLING EFFICIENT & TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT

Toincrease government transparency and productivity while improving the qualityof decision-making, Microsoft is helping state agencies implement e-Governmentsolutions, drawing on its global expertise. Microsoft is the only softwarecompany whose products have been certified by the Ukraine government for use bystate organizations. This is a foundation for building secure and reliableeGovernment solutions.

E-CITY LVIV 

Theproject was developed and launched on Microsoft Azure cloud platform withinMicrosoft CityNext program to improve quality of living and making business inUkranian cities. In March 2015, the city’s mayor launched ‘Panel of the City’,an administrative cloud-based portal that will eventually connect all spheresof the city with the goal of improving living standards for citizens andvisitors.

TRANSPARENT LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICE IN VINNITSA 

WithinCityNext program, Microsoft helped Ukrainian city Vinnitsa launch onlineservices to better serve citizens and businesses.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION 

As a countryaiming to build a knowledge economy, Microsoft is working with Ukraine toaddress the issue of intellectual property rights — from central government tosmall businesses and private users. Reducing the software piracy rate will leadto new jobs and increased tax revenues while boosting IP-heavy industries, suchas software, music, movies and publishing. According to IDC, lowering thepiracy rate by 10 percent in four years would bring an additional $586 milliondollars to the Ukrainian economy and create nearly 3,000 highly qualified jobs.

LEADING AS A GOOD CORPORATE CITIZEN

Microsoftcollaborates with governments, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and otherorganizations to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing Ukraine withtechnology solutions, programs and partnerships. Microsoft is also reducing theimpact of its own operations and products and providing software and technologyinnovations to help Ukraine meet its environmental goals.
