On November, 20, in Kyiv DuPont Pioneer organized the last in 2014 MediaClub event for journalists in agrarian industry. Following topic “We can feed the world together” company leaders discussed Ukraine’s criticalrole in the global food security picture. Inaddition to ensure growingdemand on safe food, it was also pointed out thefuture development direction for Ukrainian agrarian industry in general andDuPont Pioneer business in particular.  

The meeting was attended by Jeff Rowe, Regional Director, DuPontPioneer in Europe, Barry James, Regional Leader in Turkey, Israel, Black Sea,Central Asia and Managing DirectorDuPont Ukraine LLC, and Csaba Molnar, Commercial UnitDirector, DuPont Pioneer in Eastern Europe. The leaders expressed the importance of quality and secure food production as a global challenge through the work at local levels.

An example of company’s commitment to solving thesechallenges collaboratively is the Global Food Security Index that has been developed bythe Economist Intelligence Unit in cooperation with DuPont and internationalexperts. Launched in 2012, a clear set of metrics measuring the drivers of foodsecurity in 109 countries, its purpose is to focus the world’s attention on thelack of sustainability in food supply by assessing which countries are most /least vulnerable to food insecurity, looking at factors like affordability,accessibility, availability, nutritional value and safety of food. 

This year Ukraine received 56.4 points in theoverall ranking and found itself in 52nd place.Among Ukraine’s strengths is food safety, compositeindicator that measures the enabling environment for food safety and low levelof food loss, while among the challenges is low volume of public expenditure on agricultural R&D andtwice lower than world average volume of GDP per capita.
