WASHINGTON, DC - August 27, 2018 – NCSEJ mourns the passing of senior U.S. Senator from Arizona John McCain.
NCSEJ Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO Mark Levin said, “I had the opportunity to work with Senator McCain during his long tenure. Our country and our community have lost a brave hero who was a tireless defender of human rights. From the time he first arrived in Washington, he was an advocate for the right of Jews to leave the Soviet Union, and later, for Jews to rebuild their communities.”
As a freshman member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1983, McCain was a member of the 98th Congressional Class for Soviet Jewry, and joined the Congressional Coalition for Soviet Jews in 1985.
On behalf of NCSEJ’s Board of Governors, we offer our condolences. May his memory be for a blessing, and may his family and friends be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
