NEW BOOK: “FLUENT IN FOREIGN BUSINESS” -- TOOL FOR COMPANIES LOOKING TO EXPAND ABROAD
By international trade expert, Alexander Gordin

New York, New York, June 2011

NEW YORK -- A new book by international trade expert, merchant banker, author and educator Alexander Gordin, a member of the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC), is a candid and practical guide for U.S. investors and companies looking to expand into foreign markets where few rules apply.

Fluent in Foreign Business, published this month by Princeton Council on World Affairs (princetoncouncil.org), combines basic business concepts along with practical insights and revisits some of the author's own experiences - some defining moments and many cautionary tales. The 225-page book also examines the ABCs of how to enter foreign markets, taking the reader through the decision-making process from research and planning, selecting the right local partners, construction of an in-country support network and managing competition and culture gaps ranging from local etiquette to corruption.

Fluent in Foreign Business is not about customs, local holidays, economic data, or market research. It is also not a textbook about import-export trading or a compilation of forms and guidelines. The book is based on Gordin's more than 25 years of international business exposure and experience in building and managing companies across borders.

Gordin, Managing Director at Broad Street Capital Group Bank in New York, develops and manages project finance, trade finance and cross-border business development for a broad range of companies, municipalities and state enterprises.

Fluent in Foreign Business is intended for small and midsize business owners, CEOs, other corporate executives and their advisors who are exploring the possibilities of participating in the international business arena, but who have little or no understanding of how to accomplish this feat. The book presents both the pros and the cons of entering foreign markets and provides helpful resources to those looking to understand the process and grasp the possibilities.

The book shows how to develop a framework for strategic decision making, how to gain access to necessary information and tools to evaluate the relative benefits of foreign market expansion, and suggests ways to carefully prepare -- organizationally and personally -- for the demands, intricacies, and obstacles that prevail in the world of international deal making.

Industry Today Magazine, in an advance review, calls the book "essential reading for any U.S. business looking to expand into foreign markets. Informative and entertaining, the author's personal insight and experience make this a must-read." Fluent in Foreign Business, published by Princeton Council on World Affairs, is available for $29.95 hardcover and $19.95 softcover from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or at princetoncouncil.org.
