Robert Thompson is a leading expert in the field of agriculture, and is currently a visiting scholar at SAIS with a joint appointment to IDEV and ERE. He also serves as a senior fellow of global agricultural development and food security at the Chicago Council on Global. His previous appointments include a number of leadership positions in both the private and public sectors, as director of rural development at the World Bank, president and CEO of the Winrock International Institute for Agricultural Development, dean of agriculture and professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University, assistant secretary for economics at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and senior staff economist for food and agriculture at the Council of Economic Advisers.
