Adam Smith Conferences’ 3rd Annual
28th February – 1st March 2012, Kyiv, Ukraine
Adam Smith Conferences, Wednesday, September 28, 2011
Dear Reader,
I am pleased to inform you that Adam Smith Conferences’ 3rd annual Ukrainian Energy Forum will take place on 28th February – 1st March 2012 at the Hotel Intercontinental in Kyiv.
For more information visit the event website: www.ukrainianenergy.com
You will surely be aware that the previous UEF took place in March of this year, attracting over 300 senior energy executives from over 20 countries. They heard from a stellar speaker panel headed by Energy Minister Boyko and featuring key figures from Naftogaz, Shell, TNK-BP, DTEK, Ministry of Ecology & Natural Resources, Verkhovna Rada, Enel, NERC, AES, Energy Community Secretariat and many more. As Dr Jim Bown, President of Vanco Prikerchenska, and another key speaker put it: “A well organised and well attended international energy forum with excellent networking opportunities and a very good programme”
Preparations for the latest Forum are taking place against a background of unprecedented activity in the sector:
- Both global energy majors and leading domestic industrial groups are actively pursuing E&P opportunities in oil & gas;
- Industry experts are estimating that Ukraine may hold the largest reserves of unconventional gas in Europe, if not worldwide;
- Ukraine is rapidly establishing itself as a regional leader in renewable energy, most notably wind and solar;
- Tenders are about to be announced for the privatisation of significant stakes in both power generation and distribution assets;
- International financial institutions are committed to financing the much needed modernisation and upgrading of the national gas transportation infrastructure.
However, a number of challenges do exist, not least, the future structure of Naftogaz, energy relations with Russia, the requirement to harmonise regulations with European directives and the need to fine-tune the tender and licensing processes. All of these issues, and many more, will be addressed by the expert speaker panel at the Forum.

In order to ensure that the programme completely meets the needs of the industry, I would appreciate if you would take a few minutes to complete our questionnaire. One respondent will win a free place at the Forum and the winner will be made public in the next announcement.

To whet your appetite, I am pleased to provide you with access to one of the most popular presentation at the last forum in which Tatiana Mitrova of Russia’s Energy Research Institute assesses Ukraine’s strategic position as a vital energy transportation hub. I look forward to keeping you informed about preparations and, ultimately, to welcoming you to an event which will help you discover how the commercial opportunities in Ukraine’s energy sector are finally being realised.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Butler
