UKRAINE: WESTINGHOUSE PASSES 42 FUEL ASSEMBLIES TO ENERGOATOM TO LOAD TO YUZHNOUKRAINSK NPP REACTOR THREE

KYIV - Westinghousе (the United States) has passed 42 fuel assemblies to state enterprise Energoatom to load into reactor three of Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant (NPP), the plant's department for work with the public and mass media has reported.

According to the department, since September 4, specialists at the plant have been unloading the fuel assemblies received from transportation containers and putting them into special cases for storing fresh nuclear fuel.

Representative of Westinghouse were present at the unloading of the first container. It is planned that on September 11 U.S. specialists will come to
Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP to monitor the transfer of the fuel from the containers.

Energoatom, Ukraine's nuclear power plant operator, runs the Zaporizhia, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Rivne and Khmelnytsky nuclear power plants, which have 15 reactors and total generating capacity of 13,835 megawatts.
