Abigail (ERLP '14)

learned in a lasting way that global perspective is not always translatable.

"Nervousness and a sinking feeling in my chest marked the first days of my semester in Tajikistan. Jet lag fatigued my body and the unfamiliar Persian alphabet twisted my mind as I struggled to read from right to left for the first time in my life."

More Scholarships for American College Students

With the start of 2016, American Councils redoubled its efforts to expand access to international education through financial-need scholarships for U.S. graduate and undergraduate students going abroad. Your donations allowed us to offer scholarships to a greater number of students than ever before. Nine American students benefited from private scholarships in the 2015-2016 academic year with more awards to be announced for the Summer 2016 programs across Eurasia. Thank you for your donations!

Two FLEX-Serbia Scholarships

Two additional students will be able to join the FLEX-Serbia program in the 2016-17 academic year, thanks to efforts spearheaded by alumnus Branko Backovic. Branko's matching-gift fundraising campaign engaged over 80% of our alumni in Serbia.

This is the second year the campaign has given life-changing opportunities to outstanding youth. This was truly a joint effort of Serbian and U.S. alumni, American homestay families, and AC staff - we are so thankful and proud!

David Gotaas Scholarship

Named after a late Board member, KAEF supporter, and a dedicated friend of Kosovo, this memorial scholarship will be awarded to a deserving and talented future leader of Kosovo to pursue his/her education under the Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) starting this year.

Year-End Results

Thanks to the efforts of everyone connected to American Councils - staff, volunteers, alumni, and more - American Councils raised over $100,000 this holiday season. It truly warmed our hearts to see how much each and every one of you cared about our students. We look forward to using the money to help further our mission and enable even more students to live and learn overseas.

Because a global perspective is not always translateable. That's why #languagematters - and why study abroad experiences are more critical than ever before. Our students would not be able to gain these critical perspectives without the opportunities than you have afforded them through your kindness. For an example, see Abigail's story.

Yoga Fundraiser A Great Success

On February 17, American Councils celebrated Kosovo's independence day with a fun-filled evening of yoga led by our own KAEF fellow, Annea, who is attending American University. The yoga session was followed by a wine and cheese hour, where we raffled off a yoga pass and book about Kosovo to one lucky attendee. More than 50 people joined the event and contributed to KAEF. Thanks to all who joined in the fun!
