On 26 January 2016, Dentons' European Renewables Workshop 2016 took place in our London office. The event was co-hosted by Dentons and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. It addressed challenges and opportunities for investing in renewable energy projects in Europe, with a focus on nine specific jurisdictions: France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and the UK. Dentons' lawyers from each of these jurisdictions provided participants with insights on the drivers and constraints around renewable energy projects in Europe at the national and EU regulatory levels, following the conclusions drawn during the successful UN climate change conference in Paris last December.

At the event, Dentons launched its new guide “Investing in renewable energy projects in Europe,” which addresses drivers and constraints for investments in renewable energy projects in 16 jurisdictions in Continental Europe and the UK.

Key market players attended our workshop, including representatives from major multinational banks, investment funds and developers investing in renewable energy projects in Europe, to discuss the practical aspects and issues impacting investors’ decisions in strategic European markets.

Arkadiusz Krasnodębski, Poland Managing Partner and the Head of our Energy practice in Europe, welcomed participants with the opening speech. He remarked on the significant scale of the RES related developments in Europe, driven by politics and the regulatory environment, creating favourable conditions for such projects. At the same time, he highlighted additional risks of worsening economic conditions in the middle of an investment cycle due to regulatory decisions and political considerations.

Victoria Cuming, EMEA Head of Policy at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, presented the opening remarks to the workshop and moderated the panel discussions. Overviews of the current economic, legal and political environment for investments in renewable energy projects were presented by:

  • Arkadiusz Krasnodębski (Poland Managing Partner and Head of the Energy practice in Europe)
