Dear Friends,

This #GivingTuesday please consider supporting an elderly Ukrainian through a contribution to “American Friends of for Survival.”   This last year has been extraordinarily difficult for Ukraine, more so for its elderly. Natural gas prices in Ukraine have soared 453%. The cost of food and medications has risen as much as 300%.

According to official government statistics the minimum cost of living for Ukraine as a whole is $63 a month. It is much higher in Kyiv. In Kyiv, For Survival members’ average monthly pension is only 1,250 hryvnia, or about $52 per month.

In November 2015 a typical For Survival member in Kyiv needed the equivalent of $30-$46 for utilities and $31 for medication (like blood pressure medication). Without your $20 monthly supplement there is nothing for food, clothing and other necessities. Please consider a contribution of $240 or $20/month to make up this difference.

As always, this charity is 100% volunteer run. Except for the credit card processing fee every cent you give goes to an elderly person.

Despite their own desperate need, For Survival members continue to ‘give back’. They make socks and camouflage netting for soldiers who serve at the front, as well as other essentials. For Survival members also continue to take care of the many homebound elderly in the group.

Please also consider a year-end contribution of $240 or more.

Contributions may be made through our website here or by check made out to “American Friends of For Survival” and mailed to me, Katie Fox at 5333 42nd St. N.W. Washington, D.C. 20015. All contributions are tax deductible.

Thank you very, very much from the bottom of our hearts.

Katie
