On April 26-27, 2012 the Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce and the Geneva-based International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) held the FIDIC Central and Eastern Europe Users’ Conference in Warsaw.

The conference discussed the conditions for carrying out construction work and on disputes arising. The event brought together authoritative speaker lineup, including FIDIC Contracts Committee members, to provide with cutting-edge advice on how to successfully use FIDIC contracts.

More than 150 participants attended the conference, including the representatives of institutions involved in construction processes, investors and construction enterprises, management personnel, experts, specialists and advisors.

During the first day of the conference at the Regional Panel entitled “FIDIC Contracts in Central and Eastern Europe” Arzinger’s Associate, attorney-at-law Volodymyr Yaremko represented Ukraine.

Volodymyr shared gained experience in contraction projects and explained the specifics of using FIDIC in Ukraine. He noted that FIDIC contracts are more and more used in Ukraine in large-scale construction projects (airports, stadiums, shipyards, roads etc.), in particular those which are financed by international institutions like World Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Volodymyr concluded that FIDIC forms of contracts are not very popular in Ukraine now, but their usage increases and would continue to increase with time.
