Shell Retail in Ukraine / Alliance Holding LLC has become a member of the United Nations Global Compact on 5 October 2020.

“Joining the local chapter of the UN GC is an important milestone for Shell Retail in Ukraine. Shell has an ambition to become by 2050 or sooner a net-zero emissions energy business in step with society and with our customers. We are excited to work with the United Nations Global Compact in Ukraine and implement more sustainable initiatives”, – stresses Peter Kerekgyarto, CEO of Shell Retail in Ukraine.

According to Peter Kerekgyarto, in Shell Retail Ukraine sustainability ambition is in line with Shell’s global aspirations and expectations and is integrated across company’s business on three levels: by running a safe, efficient, responsible and profitable business; for our customers – by helping shape a more sustainable energy future; with wider society and local communities – by contributing to positive changes in communities where Shell operates.

The UN GC supports companies to do business responsibly by adhering to ten principles that cover human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. It also encourages companies to participate in advancing broader societal goals – such as those defined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals – with an emphasis on collaboration and innovation.

Background information

Shell is one of the global leaders in energy and petrochemical industry. As of May 2020, Shell operated in over 70 countries, using the most advanced technologies, and taking an innovative approach to help build a sustainable future.

Shell entered the Ukrainian market in 2007. Shell Retail is a part of the Central and Eastern European cluster of Shell Downstream and employs around 1500 people.

To date, the network of Shell-branded fuel sites consists of 132 stations in 20 oblasts of Ukraine, offering its customers high-quality fuel products, including Shell V-Power petroleum, diesel and LPG, as well as a solid range of Convenience Retailing goods, tasty food and beverages products. In 2019, in an effort to meet the expectations of a growing number of Ukrainian electric vehicle owners, Shell installed four fast electric vehicle charging modules at selected fuel sites.

It is important to note that as currently Shell’s operating plans and budgets do not reflect Shell’s net-zero emissions ambition.  Shell’s aim is that, in the future, its operating plans and budgets will change to reflect this movement towards its new net-zero emissions ambition. However, these plans and budgets need to be in step with the movement towards a net-zero emissions economy within society and among Shell’s customers.
