On 4 October 2017, the Prime Minister of Ukraine stated that he expects the Draft Law
On Financial Investigation Service will be finalised by Verkhovna Rada Committee on
Taxation and Customs Policy within one month.

The Prime Minister assured of joint support of both the expert community and society at
large and emphasised that subdivisions of other law enforcement bodies dealing with
‘economic’ crimes should be liquidated.

According to the concepts debated over recent months, the demilitarised Financial
Investigation Service should be responsible for combating a wide range of economic
offences and focus not only on investigative activity but also analytical work and
prevention.

While the authority of tax police to conduct investigations remains in question the Draft
Law will likely put an end to legal uncertainty regarding these matters and end the
duplication of law enforcers’ functions and jurisdiction.
